Price Levels

You can assign multiple prices to inventory items by creating price levels. Each price level is a complete set of inventory prices. A common use of price levels is to set up different prices depending on whether the customer is a regular customer, an employee or a VIP. Another use case is to have one price level for MSRP and another price level for a discounted prices. You define price levels in Node Preferences > Merchandise > Pricing > Price Levels. When defining price levels, you can optionally select one of the price levels to be a default discount price level. Individual customers can be assigned a price level in the customer record. When the customer is entered on a transaction, the Associate will see a prompt so that any items listed use the price defined for the customer's assigned price level.
The price levels that are defined in preferences can be assigned to different types of records:

  • Customers
  • Subsidiaries/Stores
  • Price Manager updates
  • Price adjustment memos

"PL Price" Discount Type on Promotion Reward Details
Reward Rules specify the type of discount that the customer will receive when the validation rules are met. The available options will vary depending on the Promotion Type, but in general you can pick from discount percentage, discount amount, or specific price. For certain promotions, like BOGOs, you can instead select a Discount Type of "PL Price." When PL Price is selected as the Discount Type, the selected price level will determine the price the customer receives. Retailers can set up special discount price levels that can be referenced on promotions.
When you select PL Price as the Discount Type, the Discount Value field becomes a drop-down that displays all active price levels for the subsidiary designated on the promotion. Note: Promotions are subsidiary specific. If you change the target subsidiary for a promotion, the list of price levels will change and you will have to make a new selection.

Override Customer Price Level on Promotion
There is a setting for Promotions that enables retailers to control whether a promotion can override a customer price level. On the Promotion Activation Details screen, is an Override Customer Price Level check box.

  • When this check box is selected, and a promotion is applied to items, any existing customer Price Level discount is removed and the promotion is applied to the active price level.
  • If the check box is not selected, and a promotion is applied to items, if a customer with an assigned price level is added to a transaction that customer price level takes priority and overrides other changes to price, including promotions.
  • If an item has a customer price level removed by a promotion and then the promotion becomes invalid (by some change to document), the customer price level is reinstated.

Change Active Price Level
By default, the price level used when listing items on documents is the price level assigned to the Subsidiary and Store. If you want to change the price level for all documents, change the Price Level assigned to the subsidiary and/or the store by editing the sub and store records.
