Node Selection

Prism preferences can be defined at the corporate (global), subsidiary, store, or workstation level.

  • Global Preferences, as the name suggests, apply to all nodes in the enterprise.
  • Node Preferences, on the other hand, apply only to the selected node and all child nodes. For example, some retailers may want to define preferences at the subsidiary level and others at the store level.

In the Admin Console > Node Preferences > Node Selection area, drill down to the desired Subsidiary, Store or Workstation to define preferences at that level.  Any changes made to Node Preferences will cascade down to all child nodes within the selection. For example, if you have selected Subsidiary 1 in the Node Selection area, then any changes made to Node Preferences will affect all stores within Subsidiary 1. If you change Node Preference settings at a child node, those changes will be overwritten by the parent node's settings during data replication. Keep in mind that Connection Manager settings and the designated Point of Authority (POA) will play a major role in determining how preference changes are replicated and applied.

About WS-level settings when changing Store or Subsidiary
When changing location, preferences (including grid formats) cannot be read at the workstation level; therefore, preferences are taken from the first active Store.  When changing location to a different subsidiary at POS, the new document will read the tax scheme (VAT, Sales Tax, etc.) of the subsidiary.

Admin Console Node Preferences Node Selection

All subsidiaries are given a default set of preference settings. To make changes, use the grid to select a level (subsidiary, store or workstation) within your corporation. Any changes made to preferences will cascade down to all child nodes within the selection.

  • To view the stores for a subsidiary, click the Edit button (pencil icon) or double-click the subsidiary
  • To view the workstations for a store, click the Edit button (pencil icon) or double-click the store

For example, if you have selected Subsidiary 1 > Store 2, then any changes made to preferences will affect all workstations within Store 2 that don't otherwise have the given preference set explicitly. You can also use the buttons at the top of the list to display a list of the desired subs, stores, or workstations.
