Assign Default Designs to Multiple Printers

(2.5.5) This topic explains how to set a different default print design for each printer type within the same print preferences area. Previously, only one printer type per area could have a default design — if a different printer was used, the user had to manually select the matching design at print time. In environments with many printers and designs, this was both cumbersome and error prone.
Configuration
1.    Define Printer Types (Administration Console > Node Preferences > Hardware > Printer Types).
2.    In the workstation record of individual workstations, select a Printer Type and Printer (Printer Types tab) for the WS.
3.    Set preferences to the store level and then navigate to Administration Console > Node Preferences > Hardware > Print Preferences. 
4.    In Print Preferences, select a Print Area (e.g., POS Transactions > POS Receipt). Select a print design for individual Printer Types. Select the Default checkbox to make that the default design for the Printer Type. Save the changes.
 
About Default Action (Dialog vs. Non-Dialog)
For most Print Area selections, the Default Action dropdown includes both dialog and non-dialog options (Print, Email, and Print/Email). The behavior differs depending on which is set:

• For non-dialog options, the selected Print Area can be configured with one or more Printer Types, each assigned a unique Print Design and number of Copies, and each marked Active or not. In the workstation record, an actual printer is then selected for each Printer Type marked Active.
• When Default Action is set to Dialog, Prism opens a dialog at runtime letting the user choose the Printer Type, Print Design, and number of copies. These fields are prepopulated from that Print Area's Default Printer Type, Default Print Design, and Default Copies values. Previously, in Dialog mode, these three fields were independent — changing the Printer Type had no effect on Print Design or Copies. Now they're linked the same way as in non-dialog mode: selecting a Printer Type automatically updates the Print Design and Copies fields to match that printer type's assigned values
