Validating Retail Pro Datafiles Using DBVERIFY

DBVERIFY is an external command-line utility that performs a physical data structure integrity check on offline or online datafiles, including those in a backup file.  In other words, this utility can be used to determine if datafiles are corrupt when troubleshooting database connection problems or before spending hours restoring them.

Using the DBVERIFY utility to validate the "users01.dbf" datafile:

  • Step 1 - Click the Windows Start Button and enter "cmd" into the search box
  • Step 2 - From the Command Prompt, change the directory to where the backup datafiles are located.  For example - cd C:\Backups\C20170203121332
  • Step 3 - Enter the following command to check the "Users01.dbf" datafile - "dbv file=users01.dbf" (no quotes)
  • Step 4 - Looked for any "failed" results that may indicate data corruption
