How Microsoft's End of Windows 7 Support Affects Retail Pro Users

The New Year is upon us and with it, Microsoft will officially end its general support for Windows 7 on January 14th, 2020.

How This Affects You

For Retail Pro users, Microsoft’s decision to cease support for Windows 7 has no direct effect on your Retail Pro systems.

Currently supported Retail Pro products (Retail Pro Prism and Retail Pro 9.4) will continue to run in a Windows 7 environment and will be supported in this environment unless technical or security reasons deem Retail Pro International’s support position must change.

PCI Implications

If you choose to remain on Windows 7, the cease of support by Microsoft means you will no longer receive any security or product updates for the Windows 7 operating system. This could impact a retailer’s ability to receive or maintain a PCI validation.

For this reason we recommend Windows 7 users updgrade to a release of Windows that is supported by Microsoft.

Where an upgrade is not possible, Microsoft is offering extended security updates through January 2023, for a fee. Details can be found on Microsoft’s site here.
