Scenario:

The user is attempting to make a Complete Backup in TechToolkit using the "Backup archive logs" option.

in the options section of the dialogue box/settings window, Backup archive logs is checked

Issue:

During the process of performing a Complete Backup using the "Backup archive logs" option, an error like the ones shown below can occur. This error arises in the user interface anytime the TechToolkit is attempting to backup an Archive Log that it cannot locate.

errors experienced shown in window with Backup History

Solution:

To correct the list of Archive files that the TechToolkit will look for while performing a backup that includes the backup archive logs option, do the following:

Steps to Resolve this Issue

  • Launch the TechToolkit
  • Browse to the Managing Storage Structures>Control File

  • Click the Button on the right panel called Rebuild

  • If it is acceptable, answer OK to the prompt to shutdown the database (this process must shutdown the database and will restart it when complete)

Once the control file has been rebuilt, subsequent backups that include the archives will no longer produce the error.

Summary:

Anytime archive logs are deleted or removed from the "Archive Log Destination" ([drive]:\oracle\oradata\rproods\archive) either manually or using the optional feature in the TechToolkit to remove them, you must rebuild the control file before the next backup in order to avoid the issue detailed above.
