Applies To

- Enterprise environments using Prism Office Application (POA)
- Store joining Enterprise / POA

Issue
When attempting to join a Store to a POA, the process fails with the following error:
Invalid POA Candidate. An installation may not be its own POA.
Root Cause
This error occurs when Prism cannot reliably differentiate between the Store and POA installations. The most common causes are:
- Hostname or FQDN mismatch between POA and Store
- Conflicting or incorrect hostname configuration
- Network connectivity issues between systems
- DNS resolution failures (hostname/FQDN does not resolve to the correct IP)
On the Store server:
- Determine whether Prism is accessed using the hostname or FQDN
- Use the same value when joining the Store to the POA
Important: Mixing hostname and FQDN across systems can cause Prism to interpret the Store as the POA.
3. Validate Network Connectivity
From POA → Store, verify:
- Ping Store IP address
- Ping Store hostname
- Ping Store FQDN
Repeat the same checks from Store → POA.
4. Verify Application Access (POA → Store)
From the POA server, confirm access to the Store:
- Prism Web Client
- Prism Proxy
- RabbitMQ Management Interface
5. Verify Application Access (Store → POA)
From the Store server, confirm access to the POA:
- Prism Web Client
- Prism Proxy
- RabbitMQ Management Interface
6. Retry Join Enterprise
Once all checks above pass:
- Retry the Join Enterprise process
- The operation should complete successfully
If the Issue Persists
If any validation step fails:
- Disable IPv6 on both POA and Store servers
- Verify hosts file entries on both systems
- Temporarily disable firewall and antivirus software
- Engage the customer's local IT / network team
Key Takeaway
This error is almost always caused by hostname consistency or network resolution issues. Ensuring that both POA and Store use the same hostname format (hostname or FQDN) and can fully communicate with each other resolves the issue in the majority of cases.
