Cannot install Retail Pro 9 Reports or apply Retail Pro 9 Reports Maintenance Pack

(Retail Pro 9.30.4.295 and earlier versions)

 

Symptom: User cannot install Retail Pro 9 Reports or apply Retail Pro 9 Reports Maintenance Pack due to the following error:

Cause: Windows update KB3126587 and KB3126593 disabled the ability to use MDAC functionality, a database communication technology used by Retail Pro 9 Reports Installer and Maintenance Pack.

Solution: Upgrade to Retail Pro 9.30.5.395 or later version.

 

NOTE: If customer cannot upgrade, there are two workarounds:

Workaround #1:
Step 1: Uninstall KB3126587 and KB3126593 in Control Panel > Programs and Features > View installed Update
Step 2: Install Retail Pro 9 Reports and apply Maintenance Pack
Step 3: Re-install KB3126587 and KB3126593

Workaround #2:
Step 1: Edit PATH environment variable
Step 2: Typically, the 64bit path comes before the 32bit path
(?;C:\Oracle\ODS11gr1\BIN;C:\Oracle\ODS11gr1Cli\BIN;..).
Change the order so the 32bit path comes first
(?;C:\Oracle\ODS11gr1Cli\BIN;C:\Oracle\ODS11gr1\BIN;..).
Step 3: Restart OracleODS11gr1TNSListener and OracleServiceRPROODS services
Step 4: Install Retail Pro 9 Reports and apply Maintenance Pack
Step 5: Edit PATH environment variable
Step 6: Switch Oracle BIN paths back to the original order
Step 7: Restart OracleODS11gr1TNSListener and OracleServiceRPROODS services
