Ingenico i6780 Setup Guide

Ingenico i6780 Setup Guide

This guide will outline the steps used to configure the Ingenico i6780 PinPad to work with Retail Pro version 9.20

A note on communication protocol
Although the Ingenico i6780 device is capable of communicating using several communication protocols Retail Pro 9 is certified to support only one communication protocol method.
RS-232 (Serial)
This communication can be achieved using direct RS-232 connection to the workstation or via USB connection to the workstation through a RS-232 to USB converter that uses serial port emulation via a device driver in the OS.
In either configuration you must use the native RS-232 host cable that comes with the Ingenico.

Operating System Setup

COM Port Configuration

If you are going to be connecting the PinPad to the computer through a third party USB to Serial adapter you must first install the driver for that device and then attach the device. The virtual serial port that it creates will show up in device manager whenever the adapter is connected. That is the com port you will later assign to the PinPad in the "Ingenico iSeries Configuration" software.
If you are using the native RS-232 port on the computer then you can assign any available com port to the PinPad in the "Ingenico iSeries Configuration" software.

Once you have determined the com port that you will be using go into device manager and configure it to the same port settings as your i6780 which by default is "19200 8 n 1".

Install and Configure iSeries Software

a. Using the supplied Ingenico Software Disk run through the setup program following the instructions on the screen.
NOTE - as of this writing we have tested and confirmed Version 2.2.5.2 of the Ingenico iSeries Configuration software.

b. Launch the Ingenico OPOS configuration applet and ensure the Device Connection Type is set to Serial Port and that all of the port values match the ones on the device and in the com port properties page in Windows.

c. If you are setting the device up as a line display  (REF Documentation available on the documentation portal Keyword "Ingenico") - be sure to set the correct device model under the Line Display tab *
