Received Error: This version of the CED is newer than the last known version
What to do when you receive the error:
"This version of the CED is newer than the last known it's stability and compatibility are unknown."
If you are using a version of the Cayan CED software that has not been "approved" by Retail Pro, you may see the above error before running every credit card transaction on your CED device. The user should still be able to run credit card transactions, but the prompt will pop up before each transaction which can be undesirable.
The message aims to inform the user that the version of the CED that is detected has not been fully tested and approved by Retail Pro, and therefore the version may or may not display unexpected behavior.
If you are OK with using a version of the CED that is not yet tested and approved by Retail Pro, follow these instructions to in order to prevent the error message from appearing before every transaction using the CED:
Step 1: Locate the EFT_service.ini file.
- Go to the drive that Retail Pro 9 is installed on (perhaps the C: drive)
- Find the EFT_service.ini file in this location: RetailPro9\Workstations\Machine_or_Workstation_name\Plugins\EFT_Service.ini
- Open the file using Notepad.
Step 2: Edit the EFT_Service.ini file by added this at the bottom of the file:
[CEDVersionInfo]
HighestTestedVersion=5.6.7.8
Step 3: Replace the "5.6.7.8" with the CED version that you are using.
How to determine the CED version that you are using:
- You can find the CED version that you are using by entering the following address into a web browser: http://xx.xx.xx.xx:8080/pos?Action=Status&Format=XML
- Replace "xx.xx.xx.xx" with the IP address of the CED device. (You should be able to determine the IP address of the CED device be going to the "Admin" screen on the CED device).
