Anti-Virus Considerations

This section provides information about excluding Prism folders from scans performed by anti-virus software. This includes but is not limited to Windows Defender. If users fail to exclude Prism folders from the scans performed by anti-virus programs, program performance can be severely impacted.
Anti-virus programs scan files anytime they are opened, unless the file's folder is excluded from the program's scan list. This becomes a problem because technicians will often edit Prism configuration files to have a LOGLEVEL=3 and BUFFERSIZE=0. These settings slows system performance.

  • LOGLEVEL=3 provides the greatest level of detail to assist in troubleshooting, resulting in more log entries.
  • BUFFERSIZE=0 (zero) means that each time a log event occurs, the log file is opened, an entry is written, and then the file is closed.

To avoid this situation, users should add the Prism folders to the list of folders excluded from the scan.

Exclude from Anti-Virus Scans
Program Folder Location
(Oracle Server version)
Exclude Prism C:\ProgramData\RetailPro
Exclude Apache C:\Program Files (x86)\Apache Software Foundation
Exclude RabbitMQ C:\Program Files (x86)\RabbitMQ Server
Exclude Prism Management C:\PrismMgmt
Exclude Oracle C:\Oracle
(MySQL Server version)
Exclude Prism C:\ProgramData\RetailPro
Exclude Apache C:\Program Files (x86)\Apache Software Foundation
Exclude RabbitMQ C:\Program Files (x86)\RabbitMQ Server
Exclude MySQL C:\ProgramData\MySQL

If Prism and RIL are installed on Same Machine
Best practices recommend excluding the …\PrismMgmt and …\Oracle folders from scanning utilities. You should also exclude these folders from Anti-Virus scans.

Excluding Folders
This section will tell you how to exclude the necessary folders from the Windows Defender scan list.
If using a different anti-virus program, the process will be similar. Consult the documentation for your anti-virus program for specific steps to exclude folders from scans.

  2. Select Windows Defender on the side menu.
  3. Click Exclusions.
  4. Click the "Exclude a folder" button.
  5. Navigate to the desired folder (e.g. …\ProgramData\RetailPro) and then click "Exclude this folder."
  6. The folder(s) you excluded are shown below the "Exclude" buttons.
  7. Repeat the process to exclude additional folders.
