Item Type

The Item Type field indicates whether the item is being ordered, sold, or returned. The default Item Type is "Sale." Users with the required security permission can change an item's type at POS. There are two methods for changing item type. You can select an item, click the Item Type button, and then select the desired Item Type in the dialog. This changes the Item Type for only the selected item.    Another method is to click the "Sale", "Order", or "Return" buttons on the grid form. All subsequent items listed on the transaction are listed as that type.

If the "Restrict Transactions to Single Item Type is selected, then any change to item type will apply to all items on the transaction. The Default Item Type is set to sale; however, this can be changed in Preferences & Settings >Transactions > General.

Changing Item Type to Return
When changing an item's type to Return, users have the choice of simply changing the item type or of changing the item type and searching for the original sale transaction.
